Box for Aunt Ann
Before Carol's Aunt Ann died, she made a special
request for an urn for her ashes. It was to be made in a burl wood
with brass fittings. Since she and her husband Dale were avid
gardeners, I asked if she would like a floral motif. She choose the
Shirley Poppy, her favorite flower.  The wood chosen for the box
was madrone, a tree she admired and various veneers made up the poppy
          design on the front.
This was the first time I tried marquetry and
Aunt Ann was pleased with the result. She passed away a few days later
and a lovely memorial service was held in her garden. |
